Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani

MBBS, M.Phil, MCPS-HPE, Ph.D.(Anatomy)

Prof. Dr. Ambreen Usmani is the Principal of Jinnah Medical and Dental College Karachi. She also served briefly as Professor of Anatomy at Jinnah Sindh Medical University. She has held prestigious positions as Head of Anatomy Department, Principal and Dean at Bahria University Medical and Dental College Karachi, Pakistan. She is also a visiting faculty and program director of the MCPS-HPE program at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. She also holds the position of honorary program director for MCPS-HPE at the College of Physicians and Surgeons since June 2014. She has supervised over 30 postgraduate students in Anatomy and Health Professions Education and is a HEC approved supervisor. She has 2 books to her credit and also attained a fellowship in Senior Women's Leadership from Michigan State University-United States of America.

Prof. Dr. Bushra Wasim

MBBS, FCPS, Ph.D. (Anatomy)

Prof. Dr. Bushra Wasim is a medical graduate, Surgen and Ph.D in the subject of Anatomy. Currently she is serving as Professer and Head of the Anatomy department at Ziauddin University Karachi.

Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Khan

MSc, MS, Ph.D.

Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Khan has a long association with Aga Khan University, where he has worked as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. In 2006, he moved to Kuwait University as a Professor & Chairman in the Department of Anatomy till 2018. Recently he joined back AKU, Department of Biological & Biomedical Sciences as Professor of Anatomy. He completed his studies for the MS from Columbia University in 1976 and his Ph.D. degree at New York University in 1980. He has earned Excellence in Teaching awards and has acted as a mentor for medical students for three decades. His research interests are vertebrate auditory system, neurotoxicity and its effects on cognition and learning. He has over 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Association of Anatomists, the Association for Research in Otolaryngology and the Society for Neuroscience. To his Credit are 64 Original publication, three books

Prof. Dr. Mariyah Hidayat

MBBS, MPhil and Ph.D. in Anatomy Medical editor and Journalist

Prof. Dr. Mariyah Hidayat currently serving as a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Lahore, and the Chairperson of the PBL Committee for 2nd-year MBBS students. As a Ph.D. holder in Anatomy, her training encompasses a wide array of subjects, including anatomy, biostatistics, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, epidemiology, and research methods. She takes pride in having 31 published articles in peer-reviewed journals, both locally and internationally. She expanded her knowledge by finishing Harvard Medical School's one-year program on "Effective Medical Writing for Health Care" in 2022-23. She also earned a diploma in medical journalism from James Lind Institute, Switzerland in August 2023. Dr. Mariyah also initiated a university journal called the "Journal of University College of Medicine and Dentistry" in January 2022, and it received indexing by HEC in 2023. She also served as a managing editor of this journal.

Prof. Dr. Masood Ahmed

MBBS, M.Phil, Ph.D.

Professor Masood Ahmed currently serving as Principal & Professor of Anatomy at Fazaia Ruth Pfau Medical College Karachi. He is elected Vice President of Anatomical Society of Pakistan for the 2022-2025 term. He graduated in 1989 from Liaquat Medical College Hyderabad and soon after Joined Baqai medical college, Karachi as faculty in the department of Anatomy. In 1998, he joined Basic Medical Sciences Institute JPMC Karachi for post graduate studies. He currently holds the qualifications of MPhil and PhD in the subject of Anatomy. In the year 2007, he Joined College of Medicine, Qassim University, Saudi Arabia. During his stay at KSA, he won two substantial research grants, which later published in International journals. Prof Masood is a recognized supervisor for the MPhil and PhD & FCPS programs in Anatomy by HEC and CPSP. He is the only Pakistani Anatomist whose name is included in the reviewer’s list in the 40th Edition of the Gray’s Anatomy. He has more than 35 publications to his credit in national and international Journals.

Prof. Dr. Masood Umer

MBBS, FCPS

Prof. Dr. Masood Umer is an accomplished orthopedic surgeon serving as a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Aga Khan University Hospital and Medical College in Karachi. A graduate of AKU and a seasoned surgeon, he has enriched his expertise through various clinical fellowships abroad, specializing in orthopedic oncology, arthroscopy, and joint replacement. Additionally, he underwent rigorous training in Bone and Skeletal Tissue Banking at the National University of Singapore. Dr. Umer is credited with pioneering the introduction of pelvic surgery, Ilizarov techniques, orthopedic oncology, and advanced arthroscopic skills courses in Pakistan. With an impressive portfolio of 128 peer-reviewed publications, he has chaired numerous national and international orthopedic meetings and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Pelvic & Acetabulum Forum at the Pakistan Orthopaedic Association (POA). Renowned for his guest lectures and keynote presentations at various conferences, he has also played pivotal roles as the chief organizer and chair of national orthopedic and surgical conferences. Dr. Umer's leadership extends to his role as the former President of ASAMI-Pakistan, where he orchestrated the collaboration with ASAMI-Egypt to organize the inaugural International Conference of ASAMI-Pakistan in 2017, held in Karachi.

Dr. Mughees Sheerani

MBBS, Fellow ABN (American Board of Neurology)

Dr. Mughees Sheerani is a Medical Graduate and Fellow American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry. He is a highly Qualified medical Professional with over 27 years of experience in Neurology. After Returning to U.S, he joined Aga Khan University as a faculty and Associate Dean. Later he moved to SIUT. He has a Special interest in raising awareness about the curableness of neurologist disease.

Prof. Dr. Nabila Kaukab

MBBS, M.Phil, MHPE

Prof. Dr. Nabila Kaukab is currently associated with the University of Lahore Medical College as chairperson Department of Anatomy and faculty at the Department of Medical Education. During her MHPE, she developed a passion for innovation in undergraduate teaching. As part of the curriculum development team of UCMD, she played a pivotal role in revising and revamping the Anatomy curriculum. Her team developed and implemented innovative teaching and learning strategies to complement the curricular changes and foster student engagement thereby facilitating a comprehensive understanding of complex anatomical concepts At UCMD, she has been involved in developing a robust evidence-based assessment system including the shifting of assessments to online computer-based assessments. She is part of the DME with a particular focus on improving the quality of clinical and preclinical skills through the conduction of workshops on OSCE development, faculty development, Clinical audit and feedback from students.

Prof. Dr. Rufina Soomro

FCPS, FRCS, FACS

Dr. Rufina Soomro is a leading breast surgeon, working at Liaquat National Hospital and Medical college in Karachi and has been very active when it comes to the adoption of new techniques and treatments for breast-related issues. Not only is she a highly skilled surgeon, but she is also a very prolific researcher, having written 70 different research papers, given numerous talks, and led many campaigns over the course of her long career. Dr. Rufina Soomro has promoted taking a multi-disciplinary approach to breast cancer, incorporating radiology, oncology, surgery, etc. Dr. Rufina Soomro likes to raise awareness on issues relating to one’s health and has been informing the public on these issues throughout her career. Her research into breast cancer includes a number of extensive studies, some of which took many years to complete. Her study on the relationship between late-stage breast cancer and age in Pakistan is particularly extensive, sampling over 10,000 patients over the course of two decades. This study found that most women are only diagnosed with the illness when they have already reached stage 2. She puts in her hours at the breast surgery, general surgery, wounds, and telemedicine clinics so she sees a wide range of issues on a regular basis. These issues include all kinds of cancers (intestine, rectum, thyroid, lymphoma, etc. ) and issues like hemorrhoids.

Prof. Dr. Saima Athar

MBBS, FCPS

Dr. Saima Athar Shaikh is a fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and presently working as Professor of Anatomy at Liaquat National hospital & Medical College. Earlier, She served as head of Department Anatomy at Chandka Medical College Larkana. She is dedicated to exploring and implementing various teaching and learning strategies tailored to the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students. From innovative approaches to traditional methods, she believes in the power of adaptation and creativity to engage and inspire learning. She is a member editorial board, Journal of Liaquat National Hospital (JLNH). Additionally, as a proficient facilitator, she conducts regular workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of healthcare professionals. She Leads research projects in collaboration with various clinical disciplines and her work is showcased through publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at both national and international conferences.

Dr. Uruj Zehra

MBBS, M.Phil, Ph.D.

Dr. Uruj Zehra received her Bachelor in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) from the Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan. After obtaining her Master of Philosophy (MPhil) from the University of Health Sciences Lahore, she moved to the UK where she obtained her PhD in anatomy from the University of Bristol in 2015. Dr. Zehra also spent 2 years as a Post-doctoral fellow at the University of Hong Kong. Her research focus is on Spinal anatomy and its clinical applications. She is currently working on various teams at UHS including a medical Education team to introduce student-centered pedagogy at UHS and affiliated colleges.

Prof. Dr. Zia-ul-Islam

MBBS, M.Phil (Anatomy), MCPS (HPE)

Prof. Dr. Zia-Ul-Islam is a professor of Anatomy and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate for more than three decades. He is presently working as departmental head at Liaquat National Hospital and Medical College since 2015. Previously, Dr. Zia-Ul-Islam was working at Bahria University Medical and Dental College as Vice Principal and Head of Anatomy Department from 2008 till 2014. Professor Zia-Ul-Islam is also qualified medical educationist for more than 13 years associated with his institute and the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan.
